A RAVE has been given the go-ahead for a Tradeston car park this summer.

Platform 18 Open Air will take over West Street Subway car park on Saturday, August 4, which lies south beneath two rail bridges.

The event will feature DJs including Ben Klock, a resident performer in Berlin’s famous Berghain night club.

Funds will also be raised for Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH) at the 10-hour festival.

Co-founder Ivan Kutz said: “As we celebrate five years of Platform 18, it’s time to spice things up and put West Street on the map as one of the best open-air street raves in Europe.”

Glasgow City Council approved the day-long event after questioning representative Scott McFarlane at the Licensing and Regulatory Committee last week.

He told how there were no complaints about noise last year and levels will be monitored hourly to ensure neighbours are not disrupted.

Speakers will face inward towards each other in what he described as a “having a bit of science in it” to prevent excess noise outwith the event.

At the committee, he said the event is a positive way to bring young people in touch with mental health issues and that it has raised thousands for SAMH.

Mr McFarlane said: “It’s a music event we’ve been doing for five years in aid of SAMH.

“It’ a way for young people to get involved with mental health.

“We’ve raised £5,000 for SAMH. It’s been going well.”

Other high-profile guests include another Berghain resident DJ, Kobosil who the party hosts say is “skilled in creating powerful dancefloor-friendly techno as well as trippy ambient for the early hours”.

The third is Sebastian Mullaert, who Platform 18 describe as bridging the “gap between classical and electronica” with his productions.

Mr Kutz added: “For this event, we are broadening our musical bracket but keeping to our high standards when it comes to names we book.

“It’s time to bring some big names to West St and bring that urban street edge back to Glasgow’s electronic music scene.”
