GLASGOW Queen Street users can take a walk through the completed station - two years before it is unveiled.

Network Rail bosses originally put together a video tour in 2016 showing a CGI impression of the station’s redevelopment.

However, slight amendments have been made and it has been re-released.

They also issued two new artist impressions revealing how much bigger and brighter the station will be.

It has been carefully designed for the needs of today’s rail passengers and, for those who have been concerned but the Victorian train shed roof, bosses have ensured it will have pride of place and is still visible throughout the new station’s glass front.

Network Rail also said platforms two to five are being extended for eight-carriage trains and that these longer platforms will take up space covered by the train shed roof, hence why a brand new concourse will have to be built.

The new concourse design is fully accessible with entrances on George Square, Dundas Street and North Hanover Street and is filled with natural daylight.

Jenna Clark, Network Rail project manager, said: “Using these latest computer generated images, passengers at Glasgow Queen Street and the surrounding community can start to visualise how much bigger and brighter their improved station will be.

“The transformed Glasgow Queen Street is a modern building that has been carefully designed for the needs of today’s rail passengers, but the Victorian train shed roof remains a key part of the structure and will be visible throughout the enhanced station.”

The £120 million redevelopment project is due for completion in 2020.

It will give passengers an expanded concourse with increased capacity and circulation space, improved customer facilities and a contemporary and distinctive building both internally and externally.
