ORGANISERS of the Fiesta x Fold music festival have come under pressure to refund ticketholders after a ‘disastrous’ weekend.

Fans faced queues of more than an hour for food and drink during the two-day event at Kelvingrove Park.

Staff were forced to relax rules to allow starving punters to get food from outside the event after food stalls ran out of supplies and queues reached up to two-hours long.

Margaret Wilson, who attended the event with her daughter and eight-year-old granddaughter, described the day as a ‘joke’.

She said: “I noticed right away there appeared to be very little seating areas, all the grassed areas were taken and the rest was like a dust track.

“As a family day out it was a joke. We spent little time together, as one of us seemed to be in a queue for food or drink.

“We stood in a queue to get food and it got shut, we stood in another queue – it shut.

“At the other queue there was a two-hour wait before it was eventually decided we were ‘allowed out’ .

“We had to go to a local restaurant to get food because we couldn’t let a child go without food that length of time. I missed two of the groups I wanted to see.”

Nile Rogers and Chic previously performed at the Kelvingrove Bandstand, which has been described as a better fit for the event.

While audience members said the acts, also including Emeli Sande and Earth, Wind & Fire, were great, the sound quality was said to be lacking.

Debbie Docherty, said: “We paid £125 each for VIP tickets and it wasn’t worthwhile at all. We couldn’t feel the festival vibe there.

“There wasn’t enough seating, no water or soap in the toilets and there was only one food stall which ran out early on.”

Susan Murray, who had tickets for both weekend shows, decided not to go back on Sunday after encountering ‘terrible sound’ and a lack of facilities.

She said: “We couldn’t get any food and there was not enough toilets or bars. No-one really knew what was going on. We couldn’t go out and back for food so we left early and didn’t bother going back for the second day.

“The bandstand was amazing last year and it seemed like this year was done on the cheap. I feel a bit conned.”

Festival organisers said that staff worked hard to reduce the lengthy queues.

A spokesman added: “We listened to feedback over the weekend and responded by allowing people to leave the site and to bring in their own food.

“It should be noted that no pass outs and not allowing people to bring in their own food is standard with all major events and festivals, this is not a Fiesta specific policy.

“This was the very first year of the Fiesta and again, as with all new events of this scale, there are definite learnings and we are very grateful for feedback.

“We do apologise to those who did experience long waiting times, and do take on board all of their comments.”
