THE Scottish Professional Football League has reiterated its backing of chairman Murdoch MacLennan following a call from Rangers for him to stand down from his position.
The Ibrox club yesterday posted a statement on their official website stating that MacLennan could no longer be considered a fit and proper person.
Rangers are unhappy that the 69-year-old is a non-executive director of Independent News and Media PLC - an Irish publisher which is part owned by Celtic shareholders Dermot Desmond and Denis O'Brien.
But the SPFL, who rejected the Ladbrokes Premiership club's call for an independent investigation, has once again insisted their chairman has no case to answer over the issue.
A spokesperson for the SPFL said: “We note the contents of Rangers’ latest press release. The board has already made its strong and overwhelming support for the chairman very clear and we consider the matter closed.”
