A GLASGOW councillor has paid tribute to a Yoker teenager who died after getting into difficulty in Loch Lomond.

Owais Malik, 17, has been named locally as the boy who lost his fight for life in hospital after being pulled from the water by emergency services.

Eva Murray, Scottish Labour councillor for the Garscadden and Scotstounhill ward, said it was “very sad news for the community.”

The 23-year-old added: “My thoughts are with Owais’ family and friends at this difficult time.”

Emergency services were called to the scene - north of Luss in Argyll and Bute - at around 7.20pm on Sunday.

The Loch Lomond rescue boat pulled a teenage boy who had been reported missing from the water.

CPR was performed by the crew while he was transported to the Scottish Ambulance Service.

He was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Renfrewshire, where Police Scotland say he later died.

A spokeswoman said: “A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, however, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."

Owais is the second person to die after an incident at the loch in a matter of days.

A body was recovered from the water on Thursday.

At around 9.25pm on Wednesday, a man was seen entering the water near to the pier at Balloch.

A search operation was launched which resulted in the the body of a man being recovered the following day at about 10.20am.

Inquiries are ongoing but a Police Scotland spokeswoman said the death does not appear to be suspicious.
