East Renfrewshire’s MP enjoyed a taste of outer space at an event in Westminster.

Paul Masterton followed in Tim Peake’s footsteps as he attended Samsung’s Space Descent VR Experience Tour.

The Tory politician was able to experience the astronaut’s journey from the International Space Station back to Earth in his Soyuz capsule through state-of-the-art virtual reality technology.

Samsung aims to inspire communities across the UK by using a mobile bus to offer free VR experiences and educational workshops to secondary schools that are underperforming in science subjects.

Mr Masterton entered a competition to have the bus visit a school in East Renfrewshire by posting a photo of himself at the event on Twitter.

The MP who gets the most re-tweets on their photo will be the winner.

This means East Renfrewshire residents can help bring the Space Descent with Tim Peake VR Experience Tour to the local area by retweeting the photo on Mr Masterton’s Twitter feed @PM4EastRen.

“The work Samsung does to increase young people’s interest in technology and science is incredibly important,” said Mr Masterton. “Tim Peake’s Spacecraft National Tour is a fantastic way to engage with secondary school pupils.”
