Heavy rain and thunderstorms on Friday marked the end of Glasgow's heatwave, with the Met Office issuing weather warnings for some parts of the UK.

The torrential rain came with alerts the storms could cause sudden flooding and power cuts.

Some areas of the country were even warned of "danger to life."

Twitter users across Glasgow, and its outskirts, shared images and video of the storm taking hold on Friday night.

Yellow warnings are in place for the north-east of Scotland until 2pm on Saturday.

Although no warnings have been issued for Glasgow and its surrounding areas, the Met Office has forecast rain and wind for the weekend.

The weather service said: "There will be a few brief bright or sunny spells across Glasgow but, otherwise, it will be rather cloudy with scattered showers or longer spells of rain, occasionally heavy.

"It will become windy in the south this afternoon with strong southwesterly winds, and a maximum temperature of 19C."

Tonight will see "a period of persistent and locally heavy rain" that will extend north across all parts.

The Met Office added: "There will be drier weather with clear periods following on from the south, but windy at first, with a minimum temperature of 11C."

Sunday will wee outbreaks of mostly light rain which will extend north through the morning.

It will then become drier in the afternoon with the kies gradually brightening from the west.

The far northwest will stay dry. There will be light winds and a maximum temperature of 18C.

On the outlook for the start of the week, the Met Office said: "It will be breezy on Monday with showers, heavy in the afternoon in the north.

"It will be windy with patchy rain in the northwest on Tuesday, but mainly dry in the south.

"Isolated showers are set for Glasgow on Wednesday."
