COPS are hunting for a deliberate fire-starter who set a door alight in the early hours of the morning.

The suspicious fire happened in Kilwinning on Thursday at around 2.10am.

Police said the door of a house was deliberately set on fire in Treesbank.

Emergency services attended and the fire was put out.

No-one was within the property at the time of the incident. The door, however, is completely destroyed and the property itself has suffered extensive smoke damage.

Officers have been reviewing CCTV footage for any details which could assist in their enquiries and a hooded figure, wearing dark coloured clothing is spotted near the property around the time of the incident.

Detective Constable Steven Ferry said: “The motive for this fire is unknown, thankfully, no-one was injured but the person’s home has been extensively damaged by smoke and the incident has left them extremely upset.

"I am appealing to local residents who may have seen or heard something which they dismissed at the time to consider if what they saw or heard is relevant, any small piece of information could prove vital in helping us identify who is responsible for this criminality.”
