A SINGER who danced with Nelson Mandela in George Square during his 1993 visit to Glasgow is to perform at an event in the city which aims to raise funds for a statue in his honour.

South African artist Marah Louw will sing at the Centenary Gala Dinner in Glasgow later this month, organised by the Nelson Mandela Scottish Memorial Foundation (NMSMF),

The foundation is raising funds for a public statue of the anti-apartheid campaigner, who was awarded the Freedom of the City in Glasgow in 1993 and died in December 2013 at the age of 95.
