THE world's most advanced jet is going on display in Glasgow as part of the 100th celebrations of the RAF.

Visitors will be able to sit in and experience the cockpit of the Lightening stealth combat jet at the RAF100 Aircraft Tour, which opens on Friday at Glasgow Science Centre.

Five iconic RAF jets will also be on display including the Sopwith Snipe, Spitfire, Harrier and Typhoon.

The Red Arrows are also expected to do a thrilling flypast over Glasgow on Saturday at 3.29pm, '“subject to weather, aircraft serviceability and operational commitments.”

Glasgow will also be the first Aircraft Tour to have a RAFA Mini-Scale Spitfire designed especially for children, allowing them to get up close with the RAF’s history and learn more about this iconic institution.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Sir Stephen Hillier, will officially opens the tour, just after 11am today along with a flypast by two Typhoon Jets.

The event interactive activities, allowing visitors to experience the science behind one of the world’s most technologically advanced Air Forces.

The tour’s arrival in Glasgow follows highly events in London’s Horseguards Parade, Cardiff’s City Hall, Northern Ireland and Birmingham’s Victoria Square. T

The event will be open to the public from 11am to 5.30pm today and Saturday, September 1 and 2 from 9am to 6pm.
