GLASGOW’S first hotel dedicated to Scotland's buzzing pop music scene has opened its doors.

The £11.25million Ibis, which sits on the corner of Waterloo Street and Douglas Street, has been designed to pay tribute to Glasgow – and Scotland’s – musical connections and history.

Carpets in all 137 bedrooms feature silhouettes of some of Glasgow's most famous music venues, including the Barrowlands, SSE Hydro and Armadillo.

In the bathrooms the names of some of Scotland’s best loved bands including Primal Scream, Travis, the Blue Nile, Belle & Sebastian are painted in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

The hotel also features murals outside the lifts paying homage to Glasgow and its musical connections, vinyl records and cassette tapes across the interiors, a working jukebox in the public areas downstairs, and a piano at the entrance.

Guests can also enjoy a cocktail or two in the ‘rehearsal studio’ bar.

The former office block has been transformed thanks to a multi-million pound investment nu UK-based private equity and property manager Maven Capital Partners.

Rory MacAleece, General Manager at ibis Styles Glasgow Centre West, said: “I’m exceptionally proud to see Glasgow’s second ibis Styles open its doors to guests – myself and the team have been looking forward to this moment for some time.

“Not only is ibis Styles Glasgow Centre West in a fantastic central location, moments from everything Glasgow has to offer, we’re perfectly positioned within the city’s business district for corporate guests. We really do have something for everyone.”

The Ibis joins other music-themed hotel around the world including Hotel Max in Seattle which has an entire floor dedicated to Sub Pop Records, famous for signing Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney,

Rooms include record players and guests can request vinyl delivered to their room.

Overnight stays at the Ibis start from just £65 for a double room, bed and breakfast.
