IT was disappointing to hear that Ryan Jack was booed by a section of the Scotland support when he came on against Belgium on Friday night at Hampden.

I have to say, it was something that I never experienced when I was playing for my country. In my book, club allegiances should be left at the door when you go to the national stadium to support Scotland, and although I know it is a minority of the fans who indulge in this kind of stuff, I hope it doesn’t become more widespread.

It can only be a good thing for Scotland that after years of being denied the chance to select players from one of the country’s biggest clubs, they are finally able to look to Ibrox again and call on quality players.

Ryan is mentally strong enough not only to shrug off the stick he got from people who are supposed to be there to support him, but also to put the mistake he made when he came on behind him too.

It was unfortunate for him that when he was caught on the ball, it led directly to a goal for Belgium, but that will be a great lesson for him going forward.

You simply can’t afford to give players of that level any encouragement, which he now knows all too well, and he will have learned from the experience and will be a better player for it.

I have to say, I think he has really found his best form for Rangers again this season, and he is playing the way he was at Aberdeen, or if anything, even better.

For me, it is between him and the other member of the Rangers squad who has been away with this country this week, Allan McGregor, for the most impressive performer in the early part of the season for the club.

Hopefully the Scotland supporters will come to appreciate these lads the way that the Rangers support have, and get fully behind them in the future.
