THE sister of a man gunned down on his doorstep has said she wants to prevent another family from experiencing their nightmare as she appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Gary More’s sister Lynsey spoke out as police continue their hunt for the gunman responsible for killing the 32-year-old fitness instructor.

We reported last week that Gary was outside his home in Gartness Drive, Chapelhall, Airdrie, when he was shot by a man who got out of a white vehicle, believed to be a Skoda Fabia car. The shooting happened at around 8.10pm on Thursday.

Emergency services attended, however Gary was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lynsey said: “There are no words to describe the devastation we have experienced as a family - losing a son, brother, father and uncle. Our hearts have been broken and we cannot understand how anyone could even consider taking this course of action against another human being.

“People who really knew Gary know how much he valued friends and family – they were the centre of his life. He was a good person with a good heart and we all loved him so much. Our world has been shattered and our lives will never be the same again. Gary did not deserve this, no one deserves this. It has been a great comfort to us to receive so many messages of kindness and support from the people who really knew Gary.

“We would urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to make the police aware of it. By doing so you might prevent another family from experiencing our nightmare.”

Now police are focusing on the movements of the car, which was found burnt out in North Glasgow after the murder, and officers hope that motorists may have seen those responsible.

The car, which had a number of occupants, drove off from Gartness Drive after the shooting, turned left onto Bowhouse Brae Road where it was lost to view.

The same model and colour of car was later found burnt out near Craigmaddie Road in Balmore. Despite the damage, forensic opportunities are being sought with a meticulous examination of the vehicle taking place, and also the area where it was found.

Police said enquiries carried out so far have revealed that the vehicle was stolen on August 2 this year from the Pollokshields area of Glasgow. Its true identity is SH13-UMG but at this stage it is not known what registration plates were on the vehicle at the time it was set alight. Enquiries continue to ascertain if this car is the same vehicle used in the murder.

Officers are also appealing for information as to its whereabouts between August 2, when it was stolen and the evening of September 6.

A significant amount of work in relation to CCTV is ongoing. A number of sightings of a similar described white Skoda Fabia have been made, immediately after the murder occurred. These sightings are at Towers Road, Connor Street, Burnhead Road and at the roundabout known as the Four-ways roundabout, all in the Airdrie area.

There is also a possible sighting of a white Skoda Fabia near to Kirkintilloch which is heading in the general direction of where the burnt out vehicle was found.

Motorists travelling on these roads between 7pm and 11pm on September 6, who may have seen this vehicle are asked to come forward. Also, anyone with any dash cam footage is asked to contact the enquiry team as the footage may have captured vital images which could assist in the murder inquiry.

Forensic searches and examinations continue at the scene of the shooting and CCTV footage will continue to be gathered and reviewed.

Detective Superintendent Allan Burton, from the Major Investigations Team, said: “We have had a very poor response so far for information despite the fact that children and members of the public were there at the time and could so easily have been injured, therefore I am urging anyone with information to please pass it on to police immediately.

“I would like to reassure people that information can be given in confidence and you can also contact Crimestoppers where you can remain anonymous.

“Additional officers continue to patrol the area to provide public reassurance to the local community and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.”

Anyone with information regarding this crime please contact police by phoning 101 and quoting reference number 3626 of 6 September 2018. Crimestoppers can be contacted through 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
