FOODIES in Glasgow’s South Side will have the opportunity to sample a meal alongside Italian craft beers in a converted Piaggio Ape van.

The pop up vehicle will be based in the middle of the Cellar Southside, which is next to Cathcart Station on Friday and Saturday night.

The van was one of two brought back to life by an Italian Scottish family who run Pop Right Up and claim they have a passion for pizza and Prosecco.

It is fully kitted out with four pumps to bring you the best Italian sparkling and the craftiest of beers.

This weekend, Glera sparkling from the Veneto region in Italy and Gradisca Craft beer, brewed between the sea and the hills of Romagna and San Marino will be on offer.

Guest chef Steven Livie will bring a three course meal to the event. The chef, who is from the Cathcart area, has experience of working in a variety of well-known restaurants across the city including Pollok House and The Eglington Arms.

Using fresh food and seasonal produce where possible, his menu will be packed with dishes including Spanish style croquettes with venison shoulder and pheasant, seabass fillet and monkfish cheeks, and lemon curd meringue parfait.

The Cellar Southside, which describes itself as a repurposed restaurant come venue, say after this weekend, they plan to host a variety of similar food and drink events.

Francesco Longo, one of the partners in Pop Right Up, said: “I am really proud and excited to be in this partnership with my family.

“All we want to do is be able to bring a taste of Italy to pretty much anywhere that we can trailer our vans.

“The people of Glasgow are unique and love to be able to add their own touches to events and parties and our two little Ape vans are the perfect way to do just that.”
