So who is Victoria and what is her Secret?

We are divulging seven things you didn't know about the sexy US lingerie brand ahead of the flagship store opening in Glasgow this month.

1. The name Victoria's Secret is not what you might think

Believe it or not the name is nothing to do with a woman named Victoria harbouring a big secret. In fact the name is said to be related to the elegance and sophistication of the underwear worn by women during the Victorian period. And the secret is solely related to the fact that underwear is worn under clothes and therefore it is a secret as to what type women are wearing.

2. The brand was founded to make men feel more comfortable about buying lingerie

Victoria's Secret was founded by Roy Raymond in San Fransisco in 1977, eight years after he had found himself too embarrassed to purchase lingerie for his wife.

3. They had a fake headquarters in the UK

When the company first opened, it listed its headquarters as being at 10 Margaret Street, London but their headquarters were actually in Ohio. We imagine this may have caused some mailing issues.

4. The fashion shows cost a fortune

The lavish extravagence of a VS fashion show is not something taken lightly by the company, and not something they are scared to fork out on either. The cost of each averages $12,000,000 (£9,000,000).

5. The famous Fantasy Bra costs more than the whole show

Ahead of each of the famous shows, a renowned jewellery designer is hired to create a bra which will not only promote the event but take centre stage during the show.

The $15 million (£11 million) price tag for the 2000 bra worn by Gisele Bündchen holds the Guinness World Record for the most expensive piece of lingerie ever created.

6. Victoria's Secret lingerie has been stolen from several stores

Apparently, a woman from Pennsylvania stole lingerie from floor displays nine times before finally being caught. She is reported to have stolen lingerie worth approximately $24,000 (£18,000).

Also, two women who each grabbed a pile of merchandise and ran out of the store, attacked an employee who was following them with a tear gas compound.

7. There are more than 1,600 stores worldwide

In 2017, there were more than 1,600 Victoria’s Secret stores in the world. And now there is one in Glasgow!
