Rail passengers have been left furious after having to queue outside Central Station thanks to a power cut which saw several services to England cancelled.

Trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh heading down south were cancelled as a result of damaged overhead lines in Lockerbie, Dumfrieshire.

Passengers in Edinburgh were told to head to Glasgow to try and grab a diverted train at Central Station, however this created massive queues which stretched the length of the station - with some passengers waiting outside.

Raging travellers headed to social media to vent their fury and ask Scotrail and Virgin trains about refunds.

One passenger wrote: "Currently in a queue for a train that doesn’t seem like it’s going to arrive, in Glasgow Central Station. Any recommendations for cheap places to stay near the station?"

Another added: "What is happening with the 14.40 Glasgow Central to Euston? No info at the station and 100s queuing - is there no replacement coach? No ETA? Nothing?"

Another passenger Jacob Campbell shared images of the people gathering in the station with hundreds waiting in queues which stretched out the Gordon Street entrance.

He wrote: "Queues for the train in Glasgow Central Station - minimum, 1,000 people looking to get on this train."

A Virgin Trains spokesperson said: "Following loss of power to the overhead electric wires between Carstairs and Lockerbie the North bound line has now reopened.

"Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 90 minutes. Disruption is expected until the end of the day."
