A MAN has been rushed to hospital after a late night fire in a flat in Glasgow's East End.

Emergency services swooped into the city's Dalmarnock after they were alerted to the blaze after 11pm.

The fire started in a ground floor flat in Sorn Street.

Locals described hearing explosions as the blaze took hold of the property.

The man, whose age is unknown, was injured and he was taken to Glasgow's Royal Infirmary.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 11.11pm on Monday, September 24 to reports of a dwelling fire in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised three fire engines and an aerial appliance to the three-storey building at Sorn Street, where firefighters extinguished a fire that had taken hold within a ground floor property.

"One casualty was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and thereafter transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.

"A joint investigation between SFRS and Police Scotland will take place in due course."
