POPULAR city boozer Lauder's has hit a snag in their efforts to reopen following the Victoria's Nightclub fire.

The pub, which is situated next to the Pavilion theatre, said that the fire in March and subsequent demolition works has caused damage to both their roof and the gable end of the building.

The night spot, which is owned by the same team behind The Horseshoe Bar and the Auctioneers in the city, also claimed it has been difficult to obtain building warrants.

We previously reported that the pub had planned to open its doors in November but now the owners have warned that might not happen.

A statement said: "The fire and subsequent demolition works caused damage to our roof and gable end of the building. This issue will be fixed very soon and is not causing any hold ups on re-opening.

"The second and biggest issue we are having is obtaining building warrants and working with conservationists, which is holding up the process. All of our plans are complete and ready to go, however, we need approval from the city council in order to commence the works.

"This is a slow process and one which is becoming very frustrating.

The statement added: "It is even more frustrating when you consider that we plan to create 25 new job roles as well as keep our previous team. This can only benefit the city as well as getting a landmark business back open.

"It is undoubtedly not going to be November when we are re-opening - we will give a further update as soon as we have it.

"Apologies and we look forward to seeing you again very soon."

The pub has to cease trading earlier this year when a fire ripped through Victoria's Nightclub.

At the height of the blaze, more than 120 firefighters and 20 fire engines were mobilised to the city centre to fight the fire.

A cordon was set up following the fire after the council said the building which housed Victoria's Nightclub was unsafe and would have to be pulled down by its owners.

The cordon has since been removed and businesses have been returning to normality with fast food giants McDonald's and discount store Savers among those to resume trading.

Glasgow City Council said they have been working with Lauders to enable the work to begin. The Evening Times understands that the pub has not applied for any building warrants in at least three years.
