STEVEN Gerrard's famous pals teased him about joining Rangers.

The Gers boss received a message from his former teammate Jamie Redknapp's phone saying Frank Lampard "got the better job" after his appointment at Derby County.

But the text turned out to be a prank from cricket star Freddie Flintoff, who nabbed the former midfielder's phone while away on a work trip.

The 40-year-old told A League of Their Own host James Corden it was "favourite" prank in recent months.

He said:“When we do the road trips or spend time together, you just don’t leave your phone lying around.

“We were in Ireland the other week and Jamie was giving his phone to one of the girls on the crew and gave her the codes so he could take a photograph.

“I was in earshot for the code so I got his phone and we sent a message to Steven Gerrard.

“The text was ‘Steve, I think Frank got the better job'”.

Jamie, who also appeared on the Sky1 show, added: “So I came back to look at my phone and it said ‘you think so do ya?’ and I’m thinking that’s a bit odd.”

But Jamie wasn't a fan of the joke, telling pal Freddie it "wasn't funny".

Freddie explained: “I’ll be honest with you, out of all the messages we’ve sent, we’ve sent to royalty, we’ve sent to everyone and its all been a bit of a laugh and a giggle.

“His t*** fell out, you should have seen him. He lost his head.”
