COPS have closed off part of the M8 motorway this morning to deal with an incident.

The force confirmed that the stretch of road is closed at junction 15 and 16.

Cops have been at the scene since 6.55am and said it was closed due to a police operation.

The force said that they had concerns for an individual and their negotiators were at the scene.

In a statement, the force said: "We are currently dealing with an incident on the M8, Glasgow at junction 15 and 16.

"The motorway is currently closed in both directions."

One road user complained on social media about the closure.

The force added: "Ther incident is ongoing and there's no definitive time of conclusion. We don't take the decision to close a major route such as this lightly."

The closure comes as thousands of runners prepare to travel into Glasgow for the Great Scottish Run today.

Traffic was starting to build up in the area at around 8am this morning.

Motorists were advised to use an alternative route.
