A PUPPY is on her way to a pain-free life thanks to an anonymous donor who spotted the Scotstoun owner's desperate plea in the Evening Times.

Sadie will undergo her first of two vital operations to treat her crippling hip dysplasia later this month after a generous £1,000 donation topped off the funding pot.

The one-year-old's owner Rebecca Taylor set up a Crowdfunding page for her beloved pooch three months ago but, as donations trickled in, she began to fear she wouldn't be able to raise the staggering £5,500 sum per hip cost - until a mystery donor contacted the Evening Times.

Rebecca, 22, said: "It was wild. I can't believe it really. After the article went out, the paper put me in touch with a man who had contacted them about donating to Sadie's cause but at first I wasn't sure it was real.

"He told me he was in hospital and wanted to send me a cheque when he was released.

"I honestly thought he'd forget about it but he called me when I was in college one day and asked for my address - the next thing I knew, there was a cheque for £1,000 at my door."

After rigorous checks from Rebecca's social worker mum to make sure the donor was able to make such a generous contribution, the family were able to add the four-figure sum to their funding pot.

But their good fortune didn't end there, as spreading the word for Sadie's plight meant donations soon started to pour in.

The cash will cover her left hip replacement and intensive hydrotherapy sessions following the procedure before the drive will resume to raise an additional £5,500 to cover the operation on her right hip.

Then, Rebecca hopes, Sadie can meet the man who helped give her the life she deserves.

Rebecca added: "We're just so grateful. The anonymous donor wants me to send him pictures and videos of her but maybe after we can take her to meet him to say 'this is what you've helped us do'.

"Right now, she's not in a condition to meet new people. She's in so much pain.

"Her most recent X-ray shows just how bad it is, her hip basically dislocates every time she takes a step which makes sense as to why she screams when doing things like going down stairs."

Rebecca and her mum are busily rearranging their work and studying schedules to ensure their on hand to care for Sadie, who they joke has become "a diva" since lapping up all the extra attention, after her surgery.

As previously reported in the Evening Times, the duo have been frantically saving and even gave up their dream of buying a home to fund Sadie's surgery.

While Rebecca has turned her artistic talents into a money maker, painting portraits of Sadie, her eldest dog Kayla and hundreds of other pooches across Glasgow - and her next painting will be for the donor, himself.

"He's asked for a portrait of her to hang up so I'll make him one as my own 'thank you'", Rebecca added.

"Then we'll just be focusing on getting her better, but this is an amazing first step."
