GLASGOW is gearing up for a brand new, exciting event centred entirely around the drink of the moment – Prosecco.

Organiser Prosecco Events UK said it is “delighted” to present its Sparkling Prosecco Event, featuring more than 20 different types of Prosecco, Champagne and a wide range of cocktails, all of which will be taking over the SEC this month.

The event comes amid reports this May that sales of the sparkling wine were continuing to rise at an increase of five per cent on the previous 12 months.

Not forgetting the designated driver, or those taking part in Go Sober for October, there will be soft drinks and mocktails available.

Director Katie Harris said she is “delighted” to be bringing the biggest Prosecco festival to Glasgow “for a fizztastic time.”

She added: “All the Prosecco were have in stock are not available in any shops, so they’re all completely exclusive to the event – it’s very exciting.

“The event is definitely one not-to-be-missed. It’ll be a perfect way to meet up with friends friends and have a fantastic time, all with a little twist.”

Food and live music will also play a central role across the weekend.

Exquisite chocolates, sweet treats and savouries have all been carefully selected to sit alongside the drink of your choice.

On-stage live music and entertainment throughout each session will be the added bonus to the Sparkling Prosecco Event experience.

A VIP area for those who want more of a glamorous, and seated, experience will also be on offer.

Despite sales of sparkling wine continuing to increase, they are doing so at va slower rate, suggesting the UK may have reached “peak Prosecco,” said a recent a report.

Research by accountancy group UHY Hacker Young found 35.8 million gallons of sparkling wine was sold last year, an increase of five per cent on the previous 12 months.

But the increase was the smallest since 2011, amid a rising cost of imports from Italy and France because of sterling’s weakness, according to the report.

UHY Hacker Young suggested Prosecco may be suffering from brand overexposure through overstocking at supermarkets.
