A COFFEE company established just seven years ago was celebrating today after being named as Glasgow’s Favourite Business for 2018.

Dear Green Coffee Roasters emerged triumphant at the 21st annual Glasgow Business Awards at the Hilton Glasgow last night.

Based in the East End, the winning company is a coffee roaster and supplier of exclusively ‘speciality’ grade coffee beans.

The accolade, sponsored once again by the Evening Times, was presented by Donald Martin, editor-in-chief, Newsquest Scotland.

The business awards were hosted by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland.

Dear Green Coffee Roasters joins a distinguished list of winners of the Favourite Business title. In the past it has gone to such high-profile businesses as Glasgow Taxis, the Pavilion Theatre, Slater Menswear and last year’s winner, the Tam Shepherd’s Trick Shop.

Speaking to the Evening Times three months ago, Dear Green Coffee Roaster’s owner, Lisa Lawson, said: “I started the company in 2011, mainly because I was super-passionate about coffee. I used to deal with coffee in Australia and when I got back to Glasgow there was no great coffee. It took me a while to establish Dear Green Coffee. It was a leap of faith for me to break out on my own but it has really worked out.

“We’re in year seven now and I think the the culture of coffee has changed massively across the world as well as across the UK, Scotland and Glasgow. People now are a lot more discerning and interested when it comes to coffee than was the case years ago.”

The business awards were compered by Fred MacAulay at the Hilton Glasgow, with a total of 16 awards presented in front of 660 guests.

Renfrew-based manufacturer and supplier Renewable Parts Ltd was crowned Most Outstanding Business in the most prestigious accolade of the night.

The company, which has over 20 years’ of experience in parts maintenance and supply, also won the Innovation in Business Award.

Bill Munro, founder and chairman of Barrhead Travel received Glasgow Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other notable winners included Premiership Experience, City Building LLP, Clyde Shopping Centre and The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.
