A person has died after being hit by a train near Easterhouse.

British Transport Police were called to the scene between Queen Street and Blairhill stations around 3.10pm on Saturday.

Ambulance crews and paramedics raced to the incident but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Train services in and around Glasgow were disrupted due to the tragedy but have since returned to normal.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "BTP officers attended the line close to Easterhouse Station on Saturday October 6, 2018, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

"Officers from BTP attended the incident. This was reported to the police at 3.10pm and it is currently being treated as non-supsicious.

"Paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A report will be sent to the local procurator fiscal."
