Calls have been made for greater policing of the River Clyde after the bodies of two men were pulled from the water within 24 hours.

Police were called to the Broomielaw area around 9.55am on Friday following reports of a body being seen under the Tradeston Bridge.

Emergency services confirmed a 36-year-old man had been recovered near to the Squinty Bridge.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Tragedy unfolded once again around 10am on Saturday morning around when the body of Justin Conroy was found near to the Kingston Bridge.

His death is being treated as unexplained.

Members of the public have called for more support for people experiencing mental health problems and a greater police presence.

Earlier this year, three bodies were recovered from the River Clyde in less than 24 hours.

Police found three bodies between Monday February 26 and Tuesday 27, none of which were treated as suspicious.

As previously reported by the Evening Times in January, the body of Graham McAdam, 42, was found in the River Clyde in Erskine after a seven-week search to find him.

The body of James O'Connor, known as Jock, was recovered from the River Kelvin after being spotted by a member of the public on January 3 and on January 4, 21-year-old Thomas Keenan was recovered from the Forth and Clyde Canal near to Ruchill Street in Maryhill.

Members of the public have taken to social media to express their shock following the news of Justin Conroy's body being found.

Craig Mathieson wrote: "Too many deaths now on the Clyde .. can we do anything ? Police the river?"

Tracy Watt Slaven added: "This is so sad ,so many young men this is happening too, this was the same last year, something has to be done."

Michelle Ferguson posted: "So sad to read this. Condolences to this young mans family and friends - it's very, very concerning how many bodies have been pulled from the Clyde this past year! Are police Scotland looking into this?"
