Partick Thistle are on the search for a new boss after Alan Archibald was sacked on Saturday following the 2-0 home defeat to Ross County.

The loss left the Jags in eighth place in the Ladbrokes Championship with nine points from eight games.

The former Thistle defender had been in charge at Firhill since January, 2013.

In a statement on the club's official website, chairman Jacqui Low said: "As a club with a proud reputation for supporting and backing its managers, this decision was not taken lightly.

"But it has been taken in the best interests of the football club and our fans.

"We gave Alan our full support following relegation but were clear from the outset that our sole objective was to secure promotion back to the Premiership.

"However, results have not met our expectations so if we are to still achieve our aim, a change had to happen now."

Chief executive Gerry Britton will take temporary charge, along with head of the youth academy Scott Allison.

County's goals came from Josh Mullen and Billy McKay, from the spot, before the second-placed visitors finished with 10 men when Ross Draper received a second yellow card in added time.

Ayr remain top of the table after a 2-0 win over managerless Dundee United at Somerset Park.

Goals from Lawrence Shankland and substitute Declan McDaid proved too much for the Taysiders.

Ayr boss Ian McCall told @tweetAUmedia: "We can play better. It was as comfortable a 2-0 win as you can get.

"This is in retrospect, you don't feel that at the time.

"The only downside is, we had a great home support, we had three, four, five chances in the second half and never took them but there was a lot of very good individual performances."

A late goal from former Falkirk player Myles Hippolyte gave Dunfermline a 1-0 win over the Bairns.

Falkirk have now lost seven out of eight this season and remain bottom of the table, one point behind Alloa.

Inverness dropped to third in the table with a 1-1 draw at home to Morton.

Charlie Telfer put the visitors ahead after 10 minutes but the home side levelled on the stroke of half-time through Jordan White.

Veteran striker Stephen Dobbie scored his fourth hat-trick of the season as Queen of the South came back from 3-0 down to draw with Alloa.

Goals from Iain Flannigan, Jake Hastie and Connor Shields in the first 25 minutes put the visitors into a strong position.

However, Dobbie reduced the deficit in the 36th minute, scored again before the break and completed the stunning comeback 20 minutes from the end with his 24th goal in 15 games this season.
