A WOMAN has died in a road crash as two people were taken to hospital.

Around 9.10am this morning a Vauxhall Meriva and a Volkswagen Tiguan collided on the A818, Daligan, east of Helensburgh.

The 45-year-old driver of the Vauxhall died at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan, a 71-year-old man, and his 70-year-old female passenger, were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medical staff describe their condition as serious but stable.

Police re-opened the road at approximately 2.40 pm.

Officers are appealing for information.

Sergeant Paul MacPherson, of Dumbarton Road Policing Unit, said: “Although a number of people stopped to assist at the time, I am still keen to hear from anyone who may have either witnessed the crash or indeed who saw the cars on the road prior to it happening.

The dead woman will not be named until relatives have been informed.
