GLASGOW is set to host its first rum distillery in more than 300 years.

Two local residents are to open up Wester Spirit Co., in Partick, bringing homemade rum to the city.

Co-founders Zander Macgregor and Allan Nairn moved to Glasgow for university and have been making the drink for the past year in Perth.

Now they plan to open in Glasgow next month on Meadow Road.

Zander told Glasgow Live: "We can't wait to open in Glasgow.

"We have been distilling for the past year at Strathearn in Perth and now we are looking forward to expanding everything we can do to creative something special.

"The idea started in 2017 and it just grew after researching and learning about it.

"Basing the distillery in Glasgow is important to us, and with the city's sugar boom past the name comes from the Wester sugar house, which was located in Candleriggs."

The new distillery will increase the company's production limit from 250 bottles per month to 6000.

Tours around the distillery will be held with a masterclass in the history and process of rum production, ending with the opportunity for guests to create their own cocktail.
