THE boss of Glasgow Airport has welcomed a statement by Glasgow’s council leader that she is committee to the rail link.

The Evening Times reported how Susan Aitken said while she did not see it as the flagship project of the £1bn City Deal, she and the council are committed to it.

The Airport Access Project has stalled until concerns about the impact on the wider rail network can be addressed.

Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Glasgow Airport said: “We strongly welcome the comments from Ms Aitken in which she restated both her and the Council’s commitment to delivering the rail link.

“Like Ms Aitken, we see this as a hugely important project which will play a vital role in addressing the current issues with the M8. The investment area surrounding the airport supports in excess of 35,000 jobs. so it’s imperative we fix the transport network.

“It’s important that all parties now come together and get on with delivering the rail link.”
