The Scottish Prison Service has confirmed that four inmates have died in prison in just a few days.
The authority announced the deaths yesterday of four inmates including Hugh Baird, 40, who was due to stand trial for the murder of Jennifer Morgan.
Teenager William Brown, 16, was found dead at HMP and YOI Polmont. He was remanded at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this month on October 4.
Alexander Moore, 83, died at HMP Edinburgh after a conviction at the city's High Court on May 18.
Steven Gunn, 41, a prisoner at HMP Addiewell has also died. He was convicted at Hamilton Sheriff Court on November 3, last year.
The Scottish Prison Service said in a statement for all four deaths: "Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
