A POPULAR city theatre group has revealed the cast behind it's upcoming run of A Christmas Carol.

The Citizens Theatre is bringing back the sell out production, which was first presented by the theatre in 2014, with an all-star cast for its 2018 run at the Tramway.

Taking on the role of the miserly humbug Scrooge is Glasgow-born stage veteran Benny Young.

Benny has toured the UK in the likes of Hedda Gabler and Unfaithful, as well as the Oran Mor production Love With a Capital L.

While Citz favourite, Peter Collins, whose comic performances have been at the heart of the theatre’s past three Christmas shows, returns to the company for his fourth festive season in a row.

Irene Allan, whose performance as the Witch in Hansel & Gretel in 2016 was described as “utterly fabulous”, and John O’Mahony, who last appeared in the epic Oresteia: This Restless House, are also set to take to the stage.

Fellow star Andy Clark, who has regularly performed at the theatre since Vernon God Little in 2004 returns, having last appeared at the Citz in the 2017 studio show Lampedusa, will be joined Jess Murphy, last seen at the Citizens in the feel-good show The Choir.

Making their Citizens debut is Reuben Joseph, fresh from graduating from Clyde College and Elisa De Grey, who recently starred as Tinkerbell in Peter Pan at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

The theatre's two actor interns Malcolm Cumming and Anna Russell-Martin will complete the cast. Malcolm’s internship is funded by the Robertson Trust.

While the theatre's original Gorbals home is undergoing extensive refurbishment, the show will take place in the Tramway.
