Bad weather has delayed work to stabilise the fire-ravaged Mackintosh Building.

Bosses had hoped that the work would be completed by October 14 to allow businesses, including the CCA, to return to normal.

Cranes were unable to work during the recent bout of high winds which has set plans back by two days.

With more bad weather expected, it will now not be possible to complete the west gable work by October 14 as scheduled.

Teams are expected to return to the site as and when the weather permits to complete the work.

Professor Tom inns, Director of The Glasgow School of Art, said: "Our teams have been continuing to work flat out to complete the work on the west gable of the Mackintosh Building, but the bad weather means unfortunately this cannot be done by 14 October.

“We want to to keep the delay to a minimum, but safety has to be the priority. The cranes have been working and will continue to work whenever there is a window in the weather, but they cannot be operated safely in high winds. Weather permitting, we now hope to have the work finished by 21 October.”

“We have been in touch with affected businesses and we are very sorry for the delay and the obvious, continued impact this will have on them."

The CCA, Bagel Mania, News 4U and Paint & Mortar are among those still locked out.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, the CCA has warned that it is 'grave danger' following months of closures.

Director Francis McKee said his teams are still 'pressing on' with their work.
He added: "It has been pushed back because of the wind though they've made good progress yesterday and today - the protection for CCA is beginning to appear in Scott Street.

"It does push us back a week in terms of getting everything open to the public, though we're pressing on behind the scenes to get the building ready.

"It affects Saramago Cafe most perhaps (and Bagel Mania) as it gives them another week of lost income."
