A DERAILED train at Stonehaven is expected to cause delays well into Friday.
Work is now underway to re-rail the out-of-service train, which derailed at low speed outside Stonehaven station on Wednesday night.
Network Rail engineers are now using specialist lifting gear to move the train back onto the track.
It is expected the locomotive will be removed on Friday morning allowing engineers to inspect the track beneath for damage and carry out repairs.
Rail bosses disruption to services is expected to continue during Friday, October 12.
They advise passengers to check with their train operator before travelling.
A Network Rail spokesman said: “We understand the inconvenience this incident has caused to customers.
"Our engineers are working hard to re-rail the train, repair the track and reopen the line for passengers as soon as possible.”
