A CLYDEBANK man threatened a neighbour with a baseball bat with a knife attached to the end of it, a court has heard.

William Robertson, 21, whose address was given as a prisoner of Barlinnie, acted in an aggressive manner and shouted, swore and challenged a male neighbour to fight.

The 21-year-old also repeatedly made threats of violence and armed himself with the weapon in the early hours of July 2, 2018 in the garden area of a property in Mossgiel Drive, North Drumry.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard last Tuesday Robertson was on two bail orders from October 26 and November 6 last year. He had been put on a curfew to stay at home between 7pm and 7am, breaking that when he was in the Mossgiel Drive garden between midnight and 12.55am.

Also on July 2, Robertson resisted arrest from two police constables by seizing hold of a fixture within the common close in an attempt to prevent the officers from taking him to Clydebank police office.

Depute fiscal Kevin Doherty told the court: “He had been in the garden listening to music after midnight when two neighbours came and asked him to keep the noise down. He was with a female who was pregnant and they were drinking at the time.

“They agreed to the neighbours request. Fifteen minutes later the noise became even louder. A neighbour came to the back door and spoke to Robertson who became aggressive and challenged the neighbour to a fight.

“He backed off when he lifted a baseball bat which had a knife attached.

“Police attended and he resisted arrest by grabbing a pole in the common close. He was shouting and swearing and refused to let go.”

The baseball bat and knife was produced in court and shown to Sheriff Simon Pender.

He said: “Because of your age and the nature of the charge I require a report. It is a weapon I have never seen before and causes me great concern.”

Sentence was deferred until October 11 to obtain a social background report.
