When they arrived they found a 42-year-old man seriously injured.
He was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where staff describe his condition as critical.
A police spokesman said: "Police inquiries are currently under way to establish the full circumstances."
The incident comes just weeks after a man was shot in the head in Cuthelton Terrace in the East End.
As reported by the Evening Times, two men got out of a black coloured car at around 11pm, entered a property in Cuthelton Terrace and shot a 38-year-old in the head on September 18.
Earlier in the month, a knife thug in a red hooded robe chased and slashed a man during a violent attack which happened on Saturday, September 15.
The victim, 25, was walking along Dalness Street, near to Ard Street when he was chased and attacked by another man with a knife.
Police were looking into the possibility that the two incidents were linked.
