A MURDER inquiry has been launched after a 51-year-old man was stabbed repeatedly outside a house in a targeted attack.

Kevin McGuire died after being attacked by at least two men on Morar Street in Wishaw, in North Lanarkshire at around 12.30am on Sunday.

The men got out of a black Nissan X-Trail car, which had been driven into the street by another man. 

Mr McGuire suffered serious injuries after suffering a number of stab wounds and was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he later died. 

Detectives have now launched a murder enquiry after a post mortem examination was carried out and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are also studying CCTV footage from the area and carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

Police said specially trained Family Liaison Officers were supporting Mr McGuire's relatives.

Detective Inspector Carol Craig, of Police Scotland's Major Investigation Teams, said: "This was a violent attack which cost Mr McGuire his life.

"This does not appear to be a random incident and I am content that he Mr McGuire was the intended victim and this was indeed a targeted attack.

"Nonetheless I am appealing for anyone who was in the area and has any information that will help us identify the group of men responsible. 

"If you witnessed the attack you should get in touch with Police Scotland as soon as possible via 101, quoting incident 0175 of 14/10/2018."
