This is a massive couple of weeks on the horizon for Celtic.

It kicks tomorrow afternoon against Hibs and although there are important games in the Europa League and the League Cup, for me the game at Celtic Park tomorrow has enormous significance.

Getting back to the top of the league is massive – and although that still is dependent on results elsewhere this weekend, I think these are the type of games where if you are going to win a title that you have to make a statement.

And I also have to say that I think it is inappropriate for anyone to talk at the minute of the possibility of Neil Lennon returning to the Celtic dugout any time soon. There has been a wee bit if chat around what would happen should Brendan Rodgers leave the club but I just think it is way too premature for any talk like that.

Rodgers has been linked with a couple of jobs of late but so far as we are aware he has repeatedly reiterated that he is at Celtic with a job to do. He has made the point repeatedly about enjoying his work in Glasgow and I think the priority right now lies in getting Celtic back to the level they have been at for so much of his time at the club.

Rodgers’ focus at the minute is on ensuring there is continued success at the club and that means winning games and allowing everything else to look after itself.

Which is why when you look at the next few weeks and consider just how definitive they could be in Celtic’s season, that tomorrow’s game is so important.

It is not just about bolstering morale ahead of the game against Liepzip, as big as that one is. It isn’t just about building momentum before the game at Murryafield against Hearts.

It’s also about ensuring that Celtic can pick up where they left off against St Johnstone before the international break.

That is the first glimpse we saw this season of how potent they are when everything clicks and now it is about doing that on a consistent basis over the next few months.

Lennon has done exceptionally well since he went to Hibs.

I think he has them playing a very distinctive style of football that is in keeping with his own attacking philosophy on the game and the most impressive thing for me is that he has done it consistently – and when he has been faced with losing players.

And he’ll be looking forward to going back to Celtic and feeling that he can give Rodgers’ side a good run for their money.

We saw it over the piece last season when they played particularly well against Celtic both in Glasgow and at Easter Road. The first thing you have to say is that you respect Hibs as a very good football team and then you look to respond to that.

The association with Lennon and Celtic won’t be anywhere near Lennon’s mind when the whistle goes tomorrow afternoon.

And I have to say that I would be tempted to go with Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard for this game.

Griffiths has had his chance to go away and work on his fitness and whatever anyone thinks of the rights and wrongs of that particular situation, the fact is that he should be sharp and refreshed for the break - and that should be to Celtic’s benefit.

When the two of them have played together I think Edouard has tended to be on the left but I think that he is more suited to a central role. I don’t know if that means there is a chance for him to come and drift inside a bit in order for the two of them to link up a bit more because I’m not sure that we have quite seen the best of Edouard yet this season.

I think he is an exceptional talent and he took his goal against Salzburg well over in Austria a few weeks back but I do think that there is still more to come from him.

There are big games on the horizon and this is the time now for Celtic as a team to show that they don’t plan on relinquishing anything from their current status.
