POLICE have pledged to have extra officers on the beat at the scene of a shooting that has left the victim seriously injured.

Local councillor Thomas Kerr said he met with a senior officer to seek reassurance for the community in Shettleston.

As told in the Evening Times, gun thugs carried out a hit on 42-year-old Brian McGloin on Wellshot Road last Saturday night.

Mr Kerr said: “Following the horrific attack on Wellshot Road in Shettleston last week, which has left a local man severely injured and our community shaken to its core, I met with Chief Inspector Patrick Murphy this morning who assured me there will be extra patrols of both uniformed and non-uniformed officers on the streets this weekend."

Two masked men forced their way into a flat on Wellshot Road and shot the victim.

Detective Inspector John Morrison spoke earlier this week to say officers were struggling to get witnesses to talk.

He added that it was sheer luck a bystander had not been injured.

Mr Kerr called for witnesses to come forward with information.

He added: “The safety of local residents is our number one priority and I would reassure members of the public who have any information on this incident, but are afraid to come forward, that you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"Alternatively you can contact the police by calling 101.

“I will continue to work closely with the police and local community as the investigation proceeds.”
