Celtic moved to second in the table after an entertaining 4-2 win over Hibs at Celtic Park. An in-the-mood Tom Rogic had given Celtic an early lead before Olivier Ntcham doubled their advantage. Odsonne Edouard netted a second-half brace to stave off any suggestion of a Hibs revival which had been hinted at with goals from Florian Kamberi and Martin Boyle. As expected, Leigh Griffiths failed to make the squad for the game after revelations that he has been absent from Lennoxtown for the last threw days due to illness. That meant Odsonne Edouard was restored to the lone striker’s role while Scott Brown was restored to the Celtic midfield.

Brown’s first real involvement was to collect a booking after a trip on Emerson Hyndman just on the edge of the box

It set the tone for a pulsating early period in which Stevie Mallan’s free-kick whistled just wide of Craig Gordon’s post before Celtic twice hit the woodwork; the first from Edouard and the second from a curling free-kick from Callum McGregor after James Forrest had been upended by Darren McGregor.

It proved to be a stay of execution, however, for Hibs with Rogic giving Celtic the lead shortly after with a glorious effort from the edge of the box. Mikael Lustig and James Forrest had combined before Forrest and Rogic then exchanged a neat one-two before the Australian unleashed a left-foot effort that curled into the net.

Olivier Ntcham was next to threaten with a raking effort that went just wide of the post as Celtic went for the jugular before the French midfielder stung the palms of Hibs keeper Adam Bogdam with an effort from inside the box.

It was, though, third time lucky for Ntcham who delivered the second of the afternoon before the game had reached the 20-minute mark. It was another impressive team goal with Forrest and Rogic combining again to slice Hibs open before Rogic turned with a perfectly weighted pass into the feet of Ntcham who doubled Celtic’s lead.

Brown’s afternoon was cut short after less than 20 minutes with the Celtic captain forced off after receiving treatment. The midfielder had missed previous games because of a hamstring strain and looked to be toiling throughout.

Not that it indicated any reprieve for Hibs.

As Celtic threatened to ramp it up, Edouard had an effort saved with Scott Sinclair, Brown’s replacement. whacking the rebound off the post. Still, the third looked as though it would come as Forrest closed in only to scuff his shot wide of the target.

As the game headed towards the interval, Craig Gordon was pivotal to ensuring there was no blot on Celtic's copybook with a fine fingertip save to deny Martin Boyle with a header that had looked certain to hit the back of the net. Celtic were guilty of squandering chances in the second period before Hibs hauled themselves back into the game with a ferocious effort from Florian Kamberi. Daryl Horgan was the provider as he picked out Kamberi but the finish was quite something as the Swiss striker's effort finished in the top corner.

Edouard responded with a fine run and finish that clipped the post as Celtic looked to turn the screw again. When the third came it was Forrest again who was instrumental. The winger's run and ball across the face of goal left Edouard with a simple tap-in and after being denied repeatedly by the woodwork there was no mistake from the striker.

Then, Celtic found themselves on the backfoot again as a ball straight through the middle caused all sort of upset in the Hoops defence. It fell to Boyle who dinked the ball over the advancing Gordon to give Neil Lennon's a lifeline. Ntcham could have put the points beyond doubt after substitute Ryan Christie put him through, but his effort was straight at Bogdan. Then, it came. McGregor teed up the Frenchman who then lifted the effort into the top corner to ensure the points went Celtic's way. McGregor could have added another in stoppage time while Edouard was denied a hat-trick as Bogdan pushed a late effort onto the post.
