THOUSANDS across Glasgow have been left bitterly disappointed after learning they will go yet another year without tickets to the George Square Christmas lights switch-on.
The disappointed masses across the city and beyond have taken to social media, branding the ballot selection process a “farce.”
Those who had applied for a maximum of six tickets to the highly-sought-after event received an email just before 11am, telling them they had been “unsuccessful.”

The email read: “Thank you for entering the Glasgow's Christmas Lights ticket ballot.
“We are sorry to advise that you have been unsuccessful. Applications were received in record breaking numbers this year and it was not possible to accommodate everyone who wanted to attend the event at George Square. Read our Frequently Asked Questions to find out more.
The all-too-familiar email thousands recevied this morning
“We understand how disappointed you will be but we would encourage you to come to Glasgow city centre during the festive season when it will come alive with a huge variety of festive events including the Christmas markets at George Square and St Enoch Square, the Style Mile Carnival, the Blessing of the Crib and the Santa Dash.”
Evening Times readers slammed the ballot, with many labelling it as a “joke.”
Emails have now been sent to those who have applied for the Christmas Lights switch on.

Some claimed to have being knocked back for years in a row - with one reader even saying he’d been unsuccessful for EIGHT years.
One reader said: “None for me again. Sixth year running, but I know people who get them every year. It’s a joke.”
Another said: “Another year unsuccessful. Wasn't even going to bother but thought maybe, just maybe, I might get to go. I’ve been trying since my boy was young. He’s now nearly 14. I won’t be applying next year. Going to go to Paisley instead. Heard it’s much better.”

Every year since I’ve been 16 I’ve applied for the Christmas lights switch on and every year I’ve been rejected! That’s 8 years of rejection!!!!!!

Another angry reader wrote on our Facebook page: “I didn’t get any either. Ninth year in a row. It’s a joke!!!!!”
“None for me either. Applied for years to get them. Oh, well. We will no doubt see them on Gumtree for £20 a ticket,” was another Facebook user’s comment.
As reported by the Evening Times earlier, Glasgow Life said “huge numbers” of people had requested tickets.
Glasgow’s Lord Provost, Eva Bolander, added: “Demand for tickets for the Christmas lights switch-on has, once again, been very strong.
“We know with every successful application, others will have been disappointed. We simply can’t squeeze everyone who wants a ticket into George Square.
“So, if you’re lucky enough to have been selected, please come along and make it a night to remember.
“If you haven’t, we’ve still plenty for you to enjoy and take part in as we countdown towards Christmas. We’re looking forward to welcoming you.”
