A WOMAN bus passenger has died after being involved in a rush-hour road crash in Lanarkshire.

Police are now appealing for information following the incident on Wednesday.

At around 4.05pm, an orange bus collided with a white Renault HGV on the M74 southbound, near junction 6, Motherwell.

A 74-year-old female passenger on the bus was seriously injured during the impact and was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital where she died later.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Two other passengers on the bus, both women, aged 78 and 77, sustained minor injuries. They were also taken by ambulance to Wishaw General where they were treated and have since been discharged.

The 63-year old-driver of the bus was treated by ambulance staff at the scene for minor injuries.

The 59-year-old male driver of the Renault HGV was not injured.

Sergeant Stewart Dyer, Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who saw the crash, including those with any dashcam footage, and also the drivers of two cars, one blue and one red (NFD), who were in the area round the time of the crash. Their information could prove vital to the investigation.”
