A DOG walker was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a HGV which failed to stop.

Traffic cops are investigating the hit and run which happened in Wishaw at around 8.15am on Wednesday.

The 66-year-old man was walking his two dogs on Netherton Street, near to Netherton Road, when he was struck by the white vehicle.

Members of the public helped the victim who was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment to head and shoulder injuries. He was later released.

Constable Simon Reilly from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell said: “Officers are currently examining CCTV and making enquiries locally in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.

“It is very possible that the driver of the HGV has not realised that he struck the man and I would appeal to them to come forward.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area yesterday morning and may have witnessed the incident to please get in touch. I would particularly appeal to any motorists who were in the vicinity to check their dash-cams in case they have captured any footage which could be of significance to the investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell via 101, quoting incident number 0542 of Wednesday 24 October 2018.”
