POLICE Scotland has revealed no-one was found in the River Kelvin after a report of a person in the water sparked a huge emergency service rescue operation.

As reported by the Evening Times, the search was initially believed to have closed down Halloween event GlasgowGLOW at the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow’s West End.

Eyewitnesses told how two fire engines, up to six police vans, ambulances and the coastguard swarmed the area just before 9pm.

However, no-one was found and the event remained open throughout.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Evening Times: “At around 8.55pm on Wednesday, October 31, police were called to a report of a person in the River Kelvin, close to the Botanic Gardens.

“Emergency services attended and a thorough search of the water was carried out.

“No trace of a person was found and the search was stood down.”

A spokeswoman for GlasGLOW added: “A member of the our stewarding team doing a routine patrol of the perimeter of the Botanic Gardens located outside the event area heard some noise by the surrounding River Kelvin, and a splash of water.

“Safety is always our utmost priority and, as a precaution, our first aid response team called emergency services who attended the site and carried out a comprehensive search which was then called off at 10.20pm

“GlasGLOW continued throughout and will open as normal tonight at 5pm.”
