A TWO-CAR crash has caused lengthy tailbacks and a road closure at Gartcosh.

Traffic Scotland is warning commuters heading north out of Glasgow to avoid the M73.

A two-car smash has led to traffic chaos with huge tailbacks on the northbound carriageway.

Traffic Scotland report that drivers are now able to use lane 2 only, with lane 1 still blocked.

This has resulted in a 1.8 mile queue of traffic.

It is thought the accident took place at around 7.45pm but it is not yet known if anybody has been injured in the collision.

Meanwhile, all lanes are closed on the A71 at Fullarton northbound for up to 30 minutes at Kilwinning.

And all lanes are closed southbound at the M74 junction 5 Raith Interchange.

It has been a day of motorway disruption.

Around 20 cars were involved in a motorway crash during rush hour on the M8 near Glasgow this morning.

Five cars were involved in an initial collision and it is believed up to 15 cars then ran into each other.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the Erskine Bridge, junction 30 eastbound on the M8, at around 7.55am on Thursday.

Police said there were no reports of any serious injuries in the crash.
