GLASGOW and its surrounding areas are set to be hit with “heavy and persistent” rain the whole of Saturday.

The forecast has prompted a yellow ‘be aware’ warning from the Met Office.

The national weather service has been forced to out the warning into place from midnight until 11.59pm on Saturday.

The Met Office said: “Saturday will see heavy and persistent rain affect Glasgow, which will last much of the day.

“Spray and flooding on roads should be expected as this will make journey times longer.

“Bus and train services will also be affected, making journey times taking longer.”

The weather has already forced the cancellation of the hugely-popular annual Paisley fireworks display which was set to take place on Saturday.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesman said: “We are really sorry to let you know we are cancelling Saturday’s fireworks event in Paisley.

“This is due to severe wind gusts and rain forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the weekend, which make it impossible for us to deliver the event safely.

“We have been monitoring the situation closely and have taken the advice from our display contractor, health and safety and the event advisory group.

“Paisley fireworks is one of the highlights of our event year and we know lots of people will be very disappointed.

“We want to give local people and all of our supporters as much time as possible to change their plans and we hope to see everyone back in Paisley on Saturday, 17 November for our fabulous Christmas light switch-on.

“Please take care if you are out and about this weekend.”
