A MASS will be held in the Calton to celebrate 131 years since the formation of Celtic Football Club.
Supporters are invited to St Mary’s Church for the celebration mass which will take place at 7pm tomorrow night.
The East End club was formed from the parish during a meeting in the church hall on November 6, 1887. Every year since the 125th anniversary, the club has enjoyed a celebration mass in the church to mark the date.
The club’s charitable arm, Celtic FC Foundation, will also be hosting their Brother Walfrid Community Lunch for the homeless and refugee communities. The event will take place earlier in the day tomorrow at Celtic Park. Over 200 guests are expected to enjoy a hot two-course meal and a tour of the stadium afterwards.
Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “It is always a fitting tribute that we celebrate this anniversary mass at the home of our founders, and it is important that our supporters are also given the opportunity to share in this wonderful occasion which celebrates the club’s charitable origins.
“The Brother Walfrid Community Lunch continues to serve as a great demonstration of our charitable roots, and we look forward to welcoming our guests once again to Celtic Park for this lunch.”
Canon Tom White will take the mass and said it is ‘a great honour’ to celebrate the memorable event.
