I was absolutely delighted to be involved with the launch of a special Rangers Legends strip at the weekend along with my old teammates Barry Ferguson and Marvin Andrews.

It was all in aid of promoting a match that we will be taking part in next March in Blackpool, as a team of Rangers legends take on a team of former Liverpool and English Premier League legends.

Proceeds from the match will go towards some very worthwhile charitable causes, such as The Emmie Smillie Foundation, Kilbride Hospice and a charity of Liverpool’s choice as well.

While that is the main reason for being involved, I can’t lie that it’s just a pleasure to be looking forward to pulling the boots on again with some old pals and getting back out there in front of the Rangers supporters again.

You know that when you retire, that it will be the buzz you miss the most, and I can see why there are so many former footballers who fall foul to depression or addictions such as gambling or drinking once their playing days are over, because nothing can really fill that void.

Through events like these, it is hopefully a chance for some of us to experience that old feeling again, and I’m sure that the Rangers support will back it in huge numbers as they always do.

I am equally sure that the appeal of a couple of days down in Blackpool having a party with their fellow Rangers supporters will be a huge part of the appeal too, but hopefully there are a few who still want to see us old timers play. and hopefully a few of us can still show some of the old magic.

Rest assured, we will be taking it seriously. We are still representing the club, and I will be getting into training shortly to make sure that we put on a show for everyone that travels down. Hope to see you there!
