A YOUNG man is fighting for his life after sustaining a head injury and getting a bus to hospital.

The 27-year-old got on the Airdrie to Hairmyres bus around 6.50am on Wednesday at Westwood Road in East Kilbride.

He was described as being covered in blood and told the driver he had been struck on the head and wanted to go to hospital.

After getting off at Hairmyres Hospital, he was treated for a serious head injury, however, his condition deteriorated and he is now being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Detective Sergeant Martin McKendrick, Cambuslang CID, said: “At the moment we still have to establish how, why and where the man came about his injuries.

“We know that there were two people, a man and a woman, at the bus stop in Westwood Road who got on at the same time as the man. We don’t believe they were together or involved in any way with what happened but it’s possible they may have seen or heard something or maybe got talking to the man prior to him getting on the bus.

“I would ask that they, or indeed anyone who can assist our enquiry, contact the CID at Cambuslang Police Station via 101 quoting reference number 0796 of 7 November 2018.

"Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
