MURDER cops say a man who died after he was found with serious injuries in the street was subjected to an 'extremely violent assault'.

The force's Major Investigation Teams are now investigating the death of Owen Hassan, 30, who was discovered seriously injured on Greenview Street, Pollokshaws at around 10.25pm on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old, from Shawlands, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but he died a very short time after admission.

Police Scotland said relatives are aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Today a the area was cordoned off as the force began their investigations. Tributes were also paid to the popular father, who is believed to have two children.

Detective Inspector Graham MacKellar, of the Major Investigation Teams (West), said: “This was an extremely violent assault and at this time we are trying to establish the exact circumstances and motive for such an attack. Officers are currently viewing CCTV and speaking to local people in the area in an attempt to gather more information.

“I appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Greenview Street around 10.20pm last night (Wednesday 7 November) and either witnessed Mr Hassan being assaulted, or perhaps saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, to come forward.

“Anyone with information which may assist the investigation to contact police immediately via telephone number 101, quoting incident number 4167 of 7 November 2018.”
