HOMES in Bearsden were without gas for the second night in a row after a flooded gas network shut off supplies in the area on Friday.
On Saturday night it was announced around 140 properties in East Dunbartonshire were still awaiting safety confirmation that their gas supplies could again be used.
The problems, which began late on Friday morning, affected more than 300 homes across the area after more than 16,000 litres of water entered the system.
Engineers in the area worked through the night on Friday and into Saturday to repair the issues but many were still left without supplies.
As a result a local school, Westerton Primary, was turned into as a customer centre for the Scottish Gas Networks, providing hot plates and heaters for those still experiencing problems. These were prioritised for vulnerable groups, including the elderly and those with children.
It was expected that all of the water which had flooded the pipe network would be removed by Sunday.
In a statement on Saturday evening, Scottish Gas Networks said: "Our engineers have made tremendous progress this afternoon and there’s now fewer than 140 homes in Bearsden still without gas.
"Tonight, our engineers will continue working to remove the remaining water so we can restore more gas supplies. We need to clear these remaining areas of water within our network before we can get gas back on for everyone."
It was also announced on Saturday night that those hit by the problems will receive compensation. After the first 24 hours, residents will receive £30 for each subsequent 24-hour period without a supply.
